Bi-atmospheric concept plane 2 by GDSWorld Bi-atmospheric concept plane 2 by GDSWorld
This bi-atmospheric plane was designed for my university project.

Its a futuristic cargo plane with swept back wings and jet engines.

Brief was to design a believable plane and render it on an existing movie/ game background.

I chose Battlestar Galactica as the background.

Edit: Thanks for all the comments and critiques, I've added some shadow to the near side of the plane. Changed the t-tail and i've also handed this in.

So you can now download the A3 size for full view. ;)

First off, this is a major step up from your usual work, I hope you can continue to push this envelope.

The fuselage looks good, a hefty cargo/passenger liner, not the most luxurious but not a junker either.
The angled tail piece isn't very clean or functional looking, I'd be a fan of horizontal parts, or some flattening out of those angled tips.
The biggest issue though is the main wings, it took me a while to figure out the near wing was not a downward keel (which would still be an interesting asymmetrical design). As it is the pair of wings don't match, nor do they look like they could provide the needed lift to get air borne.
To better meet the requirement of it being a believable design I would follow a more conventional jumbo jet, shuttle, or 'flying wing' type. You can change up their angles, but the amount of wing surface they achieve is what you're going for.
Minor note, the supersonic wave looking effect doesn't look plausible in space, but it's still cool :D

Woow! amazing and stuning effect. It looks as the spacecraft is going to pass over you!
The realism of the space and planet and the detail of each light of the craft makes it look impressive.

What I would recommend you is to put more shades in the back of the machine. That would make it more solid.

You could spread the cloud a little bit more in the upper part and the underside ang give the motor more light power. That would make it earn speed

Also put some more stars and violer colours (for nebulas) in the space would not hurt ^^ whith this effect you would win more detail in the background.

Well... hope i helped you a little bit with this critique.
Keep practicing and you will have breathtaking artworks!

The material strength of those wingtips must need to be astronomical.

no pun intended

You have done a great job dude. I just donīt understand what the part is on the left side in the midle. Is this a wing? You should post it on concept ships.

Cheers, its a wing that sweeps backward.
Would they accept it you rekon?

When talking about technic then yes. Everything looks great and is done very well. As long they donīt judge bad on personal taste or because someone had a bad morning it should be fine.

What is a Rekon? Never heard about that and my translater couldnīt answer me that too.

Rekon is just a slang word we use in England.
It mean recommend. Do you recommend...

hey, not trying to rain on your parade. A a swept wing (swept back wing as you called it) is where the wing attaches to the wing at an angle, making the wing look like it has been swept towards the tail of the aircraft. Also the supersonic effect in space is irrelevant as sound requires a medium (like air) for transit and seeing as there is no air in space everything is faster than sound (?). As said before, the wings look VERY fragile and seem as if they would shatter once it even thought about entering atmo., also everything that comes off the fuselage looks as if it has the tensile strength of tissue paper.

Thanks for your comment, i'll definitely try and address these issues in the next plane I work on. Oops, I meant to say swept forward wings.
Your right about the bits looking like tissue. I should've thought about that.

The picture is quite nice, but if got several remarks to make:
The plane itself would most probably break appart if it would enter athmosphere at supersonic speeds, because of the rounded wings which would result in massive air turbulences which would lead to massive vibrations which would tear the wings off in short time.

The "turbine" design and the airplane-like IMO makes no sense in space, because to me it looks like a turbo-prop turbine, which needs entering gas in order to operate at all to generate thrust.
The maneuverability is not given, because in space there's no uplift effect, no aerodynamics to steer the vehicle without maneuvering thrusters at certain hull points.

The supersonic wave cloud is also unbelievable, because the scene is clearly taking place in space, not orbit.

Otherwise, this reminds me of a certain Star Wars cruiser/fregate...

Appreciate the constructive criticism.
I originally made this design for earth but my lecturer said it looks like
it'll work better in space since it looks futuristic and then one thing led to another.

He was talking about the engines carrying oxygen which they can release but this is the first
time i'm doing planes so its hard for me to grasp all this.

I originally had just the background and the plane but my lecturer wanted to see it entering
the atmosphere and he also said that it should interact with the background a bit better.

I still have some time to improve this design and will definitely take your advice.

wings and engines are not looks symmetric on this space ship but i have to say that its a unique desing anyway. and one more thing to put its not battle galactica it is battlestar galactica :)

I done the base mesh in 3ds max so it should work, maybe the lighting confuses the look.
I've changed it to Battlestar Galactica.
