This piece 'Balance' was modelled for my university assignment. The task was to create a realistic portrait of a sports person.
Shayla Worley was chosen as a reference for this piece.

Time spent: Over a month
Software: 3ds Max, Zbrush and Photoshop

The base mesh was created in 3ds Max, High-res details and poly painting was done in ZBrush and Post-production was carried out using Photoshop.

Download for full view. ;)

Edit:
You can see the wireframe here [link]
Multipass renders here: [link]

The assignment was to output a 2d poster and the use of Photoshop was allowed. Hence the painted hair and the painterly effect.

beautiful, however the practice it must take to be able to do such a thing must be very difficult. add some tension in her face. she looks like she is relaxing, her muscles are tense, are position is perfect but the facial expression is what matters most. even with that this is absolutely gorgeous, and you should continue your work. the world need artists like you, even if this was on the computer, your hand guided the mouse to make this wonderful masterpiece. thank you for the experience i hope i get the chance to see any of your latest artwork.

how did you go about posing this? did you have to rig a skeleton and pose it from there or did you pose it some other way?

I used the mask tool and move tool to move the leg from a standard standing pose
to the pose you're looking at. It gave me a lot of artefacts so I simply
worked over the pose to get the required result.
You can also just build the model in a specific pose if you want.

thank you very much! I was hopeing that you could pose a model this way without the hassle of rigging and still get great results. as long as you are able to clean up those pesky artefacts of course. :)
